An Independent Community Action and Resource Centre For Melbourne I desire to make more people aware of how they can care for the environment. I want to know more, especially about issues that just do not seem to be freely reported in the newspapers. I enjoy a community where people are willing to enquire into how accurate their information is. I found Borderlands, a group of organisations based in Hawthorn, an inner suburb of Melbourne Australia. There I found an opportunity to contribute, and also learned additional skills by updating their website http://www.borderlands.org.au in 2002 and 2003 I have learned about the value of indexing information, from New Community Quarterly and have used the idea of indexing on my own Flowertips.com I also care about social issues, and read the borderlands publication. I have seen a recent edition grow from a few contributions to a complete publication including news of upcoming events and an editorial. I also found that there is more to permaculture than plants and gardens, and am looking forward to learning more. I particularly enjoyed meeting the people there. |
