The Queenslander was the prestige train of Queensland Rail’s fleet in 1993. It alternately travelled the Brisbane – Cairns and the Brisbane – Proserpine return journeys. They have now upgraded their fleet and run more frequent services.
Installing a new sound system in the Daintree Lounge carriage, I realised that I would be working all night. I rang home and invited Claudine to come to the railyard to practice her singing as I was working alone.
Claudine was still singing few hours later when other workers started arriving.
Several weeks later I received a phone call from Queensland Rail. They said the entertainment for the Proserpine run had cancelled and could Claudine provide the entertainment instead.
Claudine enjoyed performing. First class accommodation, great service and meals were provided for Claudine, our daughter and me.
I love great train journeys like this and the Indian Pacific Sydney – Perth trip. The highlight for me this time was sitting with our daughter and looking out the window of the train as the sun rose.
Queensland Rail also paid us for this trip.
