William Ricketts created this sanctuary with its sculptures amongst the trees in the forest on Mount Dandenong.
I had visited it years ago when William Ricketts was still alive and water flowed in the water features.
The years since my previous visits have made me value that spiritual experience and William’s message even more.
I again felt deeply moved as I experienced lifelike sculptures of the people and the animals amongst the huge trees of the shady forest.
The intricate details and they they blended into the rocks and the forest showed me a connection that I have been missing.
I had heard stories of Aboriginal people and a brief intense connection with a few. This sanctuary helps me to feel more at peace with that and to feel a deeper connection.
I believe that the message that William Ricketts is communicating through his creation is very much needed in our society at this time.
The water is not flowing now. The tank is almost empty and a falling tree has damaged some pipework. A donation may help to speed up the restoration of the flow that is part of the experience.
Meanwhile the staff and volunteers are taking great care of this valuable treasure and its visitors.
